Artist Statement.
I feel I am still exploring and experimenting in media and subject, and I am thoroughly enjoying the journey. We live in such a diverse world, it would be a shame not to be fully immersed in the experience. My current favourite subject is the sea and the play of light on the waters surface.
I have sold internationally and corporately, as well as to private buyers and the local authority.
For the past three and a half years I have been co-owner of Artshed Ware ltd, based just outside Ware in Hertfordshire. This has been an amazing experience, but I have taken the very hard decision to leave to allow me time to concentrate on my first love, which is painting. I will continue to exhibit there in the future, but also wish to exhibit in other galleries and locations.
I have been painting for as long as I can remember. I took my A level, followed by a foundation course at St Albans college. After this I took the decision that I needed to live a bit, so worked my way around the world. I continued to paint as a hobby.
In 1990 my husband got a contract to work in Bermuda, but I was refused a work permit. I was however given permission to paint and sell my paintings, and have been painting as a professional ever since, taking breaks when both my children were born.
In 2002 I started teaching watercolours to a small local group. I have now been teaching regularly, demonstrating to art societies, and have just started up painting holidays in the beautiful island of Menorca.
A couple of years ago I painted a small seascape, and was immediately hooked. I am fascinated by the play of light on the water. This has now become my major subject, but as to the future, who knows...
If you have any particular questions please do not hesitate to get in touch.

Denise//Your sea scapes are really good.. you have the wave action down perfectly the little circles the retreatiing water forms I love and this is what really happens.. I want to do some of Lake Superior .. It is so large it looks and acts like a sea.. we have rocky cliffs and beaches.. so I want to photograph this summer and paint them during the winter. Margot
Denise, I just looked through your album and I have to say I am in awe at your ability to show the power and beauty of the sea. So many looked like places I have traveled and waters I have stood beside. Rhonda
WOW. What a painting. Gorgeous and- what a FORCE. I'm wondering: How did Denise paint only waves and have my eye travel around the painting? Though not much of the larger painting came through, it was so neat to see the detail.Kay
This is beautiful, Denise and really conveys a sense of texture- and autumn. The water and trees are so vibrant. The trees look like they could be on fire, too.Kay
Brilliant Denise. I have run a number of art workshops in the past and have used the same method of showing how simple it is to put distant people into a landscape. The usual comment was 'you make it appear so easy' and then they ignored it. Shrug. Jack
